VBA administers benefit programs, but eligibility and the correct filing route depend on the benefit and claimant. VA health care and national cemeteries are managed by other VA administrations.
What VBA manages
- Disability compensation and related claims and decision reviews.
- Veterans Pension and certain survivor benefits.
- Education and training benefits.
- Veteran Readiness and Employment.
- VA-backed home loan programs, life insurance, and fiduciary services.
What VBA does not manage
- Medical treatment and enrollment in the VA health care system, which are handled by the Veterans Health Administration.
- Burial scheduling and operation of VA national cemeteries, which are handled by the National Cemetery Administration.
- State benefits for Veterans, which are administered separately by each jurisdiction.
Where to start
Use VA.gov for the specific benefit, claim, or decision-review process. A VA regional office can assist with VBA benefits. Before sharing claim information with another person, confirm that the person or organization is currently accredited or recognized by VA.
