Update VA direct deposit

Change the account for VA disability compensation, pension, or education payments through an official VA channel, then check whether other payments need a separate update.

A verified VA.gov profile lets you manage direct deposit separately for disability compensation, pension, and education benefit payments. Updating one benefit type does not mean every VA payment record changed.

Before you change the account

Have the account type, routing number, and account number for the account that should receive the benefit. Sign in only through VA.gov using a verified Login.gov or ID.me account. WhatDoIFile does not collect banking or VA account information.

Update the payment record online

  1. Open VA’s official direct-deposit page and sign in to VA.gov.
  2. Open your profile and select the direct-deposit section.
  3. Choose the benefit type you need to update: disability compensation, pension, or education.
  4. Edit the bank information, review every digit, and save the change.
  5. Confirm the profile shows the intended information for each applicable benefit type.

Other official channels

VA also provides telephone and regional-office routes on its current direct-deposit page. If you cannot use the online service, follow that page rather than sending bank details to an unofficial address. VA identifies Standard Form 1199A as an option for people without internet or telephone access; use the current form and VA instructions.

Payments that may use separate records

Travel-pay reimbursements and health-care copay refunds have their own instructions. Certain family-member health benefit payments use the Financial Services Center process. International direct deposit also has a separate VA contact route. Review the official page for the exact payment you receive.

Protect the transition

Keep the old account open until you confirm how VA will handle the next payment, if your financial institution allows it. Save the confirmation, review VA payment history, and contact VA through an official channel if a payment is missing or the saved information is wrong. Do not send full account numbers by ordinary email.
